What you will need.

There are 5 components that you will need to use the CATTRAX systems.

They are:

  • A Global Positioning System receiver
  • A wireless transmission device
  • A wireless service contract with a service provider
  • The CATTRAX service
  • And a web Browser appliance with an Internet connection

The Global positioning system is US government controlled satellite constellation. With a hand held or vehicle mounted GPS receiver, your location is continuously calculated and updated with accuracy closer than 50 feet.

The wireless transmission device is the component that transmits the GPS location to the CATTRAX System Servers. There are many different wireless systems that can be used from two-way radio to cellular phone, wireless data services, and even satellite data services. Each system is a trade off between coverage area and cost. Because of this there is no one system that is the best for every use. Typically, combination GPS/Wireless data black box units are the devices of choice.

Wireless Service providers are cellular phone companies, wireless data service companies, and Satellite Services companies that provide you; and bill you for, airtime on their networks. Coverage varies depending on the service you choose and so does the pricing. Some wireless services are much more efficient and cost effective than others. As a general rule the more often the GPS position is sent, the more data it uses and the more it will cost.

The CATTRAX system: Easy fast access, Detailed mapping, clear written information, downloadable history reports, access the information whenever, where ever, as often as you want, all for a low monthly fixed fee. The access is Username and Password protected so only you and whom you want can get to your information.

You do not need a dedicated computer to use the CATTRAX System. Since there is no extra software to download you can access CATTRAX from any Web browser device with a connection to the Internet. This includes your desktop, connected laptop, even your customer's computer if you want. And CATTRAX is the only service that gives you mapping location information directly to wireless PDA's and web enabled Cell Phones!

Wireless GPS Tracking Devices

One main advantage of CATTRAX is the ability to use any Wireless GPS Tracking device, no matter the communications medium. This allows us to select best device for each application thus achieving a balance between cost, functionality and wireless coverage areas.

CDMA Code Division Multiple Access/EV-DO Available through Verizon and Sprint. These are high speed data networks that can range in price from $30-$60 per month. Good coverage area but limited in rural areas.

Orbcomm is a low earth orbit worldwide satellite data system. It uses VHF to transmit and receive signals to the satellites. There are combined GPS/Orbcomm devices available but they are more expensive and the service is more costly compared to CDPD and Mobtex. It does have worldwide coverage and works where others do not.

Inmarsat is a geo-stationary satellite data transmission system for voice and data. This system is primarily for communications with offshore shipping. The hardware is "if you have to ask, it's too much". But works almost anywhere the planet and may be useful to an already installed base of users.

GSM The Global System for Mobile GPRS/EDGE Available through ATT and TMobile. GSM is the most popular standard for voice/data transmission system in the world. GSM service is used by over 2 billion people across more than 212 countries and territories. GSM uses digital signaling and speach channels and is considered a 2G network GSM communication frequencies in the US are 1900 and 850 mhz. GSM has very good coverage and is fairly inexpensive.
